Felt
Felt is tangled wool fibers.
The surface of the wool fibers consists of scales. When the wool gets wet, the scales rise, and the movement causes them to engage with each other.
The more the wool is processed, the firmer and more durable it becomes.
It will be chosen. This is what can happen to a pair of woolen mittens after a snowball fight or to a woolen sweater that has been washed too hot in the machine.
The shirt or mitten becomes firm and much smaller.
Not all types of wool filter are equally good, some will not at all.
Merino wool, fine wool and wool from Gotland's Pelsfår filter very well.
If you don't have sheep yourself, you can buy wool such as carded wool, intended for felt.
